Was so rare in children that was called adult-on set...now 90% of cases are type 2 in children. "Formerly called 'adult-onset' because it was extremely rare in children, type 2 arises when a person's body no longer uses insulin effectively. In type 1 diabetes, formerly known as "juvenile-onset," the pancreas makes very little or no insulin" "Rapidly rising obesity rates are fueling an explosion in type 2 diabetes, which accounts for about 90 percent of cases."
